A Drop In Time | Bundi, India
There are moments in life when you realize how fragile it is. I just had one of those. Thankfully everything is fine. But in the darkness I thought of this photo I took in the small town of Bundi, India.
I was sitting alone on the roof of my guesthouse at sunrise. I watched the city wake up through my telephoto lens. Monkeys crawled over the tops of houses. The call to prayer echoed from a mosque. Clanging bells of a Hindu ceremony cut through the morning light.
A few people came to their rooftops to perform a morning ritual. They faced the rising sun, poured water from a little brass bowl or ‘kalasa’ that symbolizes the universe – like the man is doing in this photo – and prayed.
Revisiting this image and sharing it is like creative therapy for me, a way to reaffirm there is something beyond this precious drop in time.
